This to me was the difference between the visions of the future of "1984" and "Brave New World".

Living in the USA, even as a teen reading these, I found the latter closer to home.

In the former, revolt is eventually quite likely — but in the latter the submission and control are well hidden. At the moment they are unnoticed to most — as long as the smartphone is working.
