Medium was designed as long-form Twitter. And succeeded. And so — while there are some serious writers/ideas, much of it — and people arn't even embarrased to say that's what they're doing — is manufactured "content" in search of clicks and pocket change. With no gate keepers everyone is a "writer". I don't look for "expertise", but rather interesting material written well. My critical thinking will take care of the rest — as far as whether it's bunk or not. I write essays/fiction/poetry so I am quite delighted by the fact that I get a bunch of readers in this world where the expertise of "5 Ways To Peel A Hard Boiled Egg" is often the norm.
