The Story of Our Restaurant
Everything we experience enters through our senses.
Our eyes are captivated by a Charles Burchfield painting. Our ears are soothed by the perfect notes in a Sinatra song. Our noses are fascinated by a bouquet of Lily of the Valley. And of course our tastebuds are awakened by an exceptional meal.
It is our goal to give your senses that extraordinary experience.
Ms. Zĕna Kōan, the founder of this restaurant, was a very private person. Even her staff—each remarking how wonderfully she treated them—knew little about her. Being very camera shy, we don’t even have a photograph of her to share.
She ran the establishment, which garnered national acclaim, for twenty years.
In almost mythic style, one day in 2010, she withdrew her savings from the local bank, handed over the entire enterprise to her main cook—a single mom named Zaza L.—and took to the road. She was said to have told a few people that she was setting out in pursuit of “the ingredients of Awe”.
None of us knows where she is today. She remains in our thoughts and truly we wish her the best—wherever her travels may have taken her. It is to her memory that we dedicate every meal we set before you.
