I grew up with Billboard (as well as Grammys and Academy Awards) but after my teen years I saw them for what they were — mass marketing for adolescents, whether in body or mind.
I honestly didn't know there was still such a thing as listening to the radio. Hits? Wouldn't even know where to find a "Top 40" station — especially since I gave my little transistor radio to my daughter ages ago.
Having had many decades of time and intelligence to explore the vast frontiers of music from all of history and around the world (likewise cinema) has issued me an official Snob Certificate.
Hey, once you've eaten at a fine retaurant, McDonald's just doesn't cut it.
Even as the past few decades have created endless resources to exploring and experimenting with and sharing music, it seems the Demon of Convenience and tribal bubbles are still limiting people to corporate fueled Trend$. Billboard etc.
Thanks for providing this music afficionado a look at the machinations of the music Business which never show up in my music exploring radar.
