Until 65 I was relatively invincible. Nothing broken. No surgery except a vasectomy—I'd even escaped the American fetish of circumcision.)

That year I ruptured (great word!) my Achilles Tendon. Other ailments followed. Now one knee threatens to need to be "replaced" in the not too distant future. Teeth and vision are not covered by Medicare. The list is long.

I don't usually share my stories in comments on someone else's piece, but since you asked, this really is the long answer from one long in the tooth.
