I am so sorry to hear about your friend. A sad and terrible story. One of millions of lives wasted—for what?

I guess that’s the thing about Memorial Day that drives me to such anger—the endless fluff rhetoric peppered with the word “freedom” that pretends to justify these people’s lives being taken away.

I’ve been on this soapbox from as far back as I recall. At 15 I was at the March on the Pentagon and by 18 was “underground”, refusing to register with the Death Lottery.

I can’t say I am optimistic that we can ever break these cycles and chains when I watch how deeply entrenched the groupthink around war is.

Thanks for reading and responding.
